Nikita (name)

Nikita is a unisex name, historically masculine from Russian and related languages. The Ukrainian version is Mykyta (Ukrainian pronunciation: [mɪkɪtɑ]),[1] and the Belarusian version is Mikita (Belarusian pronunciation: [mɪkɪtɑ]), but Nikita also appears in both countries. All are derived from the Greek Niketas (Νικήτας) meaning "victorious". Beginning in the 20th century, it was adopted for female children in some countries such as France but remains strictly masculine in Russia and other countries of eastern Europe.
